I ran my first ever full marathon in the Lewa Wildlife Conservancy, a 45,000 acre privately owned property situated on the northern foothills of Mount Kenya. Set up initially by the Craig family, The Lewa Wildlife Conservancy is a pioneer in wildlife preservation, especially rhinos and elephants. Lewa Downs, which is 15 km away from the nearest road, has rustic resort cottages with cooling `Sanje' (swamp grass) roofs designed to mix traditional African ambiance with...

| Running on a World Wonder |
In an article dated Jan 23, 2012, Forbes magazine wrote about 'Top 10 Marathons Worth travelling For'. The Great Wall Marathon in Tianjin, China, got the first spot. "If visiting the Great Wall of China is on your bucket list and you’re a glutton for punishment," said the magazine, "then this marathon may be for you. Runners should expect the race to take about 50 percent longer to complete than an average marathon due to extreme ascents and descents (... |

| My First full ! |
Mawana Sugar Marathon'. While scouting for a full marathon event to participate in for my first full, this seemed to be most viable option. From a location and timing perspective. I did find some critical blogs on this event but nothing prepared me for the actual event!! First about myself. Having picked up running at the young age of 46 and completed ADHM 2012 done in 2:32, was willing to push myself for a full. Having selected the Mawana marathon, did another... |

| A different "Run", same fabulous ending |
The Auroville Marathon is an event that I do my best to attend. It is usually held between 3 & 4 weeks after the Standard Chartered Mumbai Marathon (SCMM). Just as the SCMM is held on the 3rd Sunday of January, the Auroville Marathon is held on the 2nd Sunday of February. The mindset going into each of the events is so vastly different. SCMM is the premier running event of the year for most runners. One trains... |

| My First Full Marathon: Revealed the difference. |
I rembered, when I visited last year to Mumbai for my first half marathon run in Mumbai, my friends felt I should have participated in full consdering my timing in Pune HM instead of half, but I decided to go little slow and completed HM in 2 hrs.plus few min. With couple of HM under my belt, I was (over)confident and set a new goal for myself. Goal was to complete Mumbai FM in sub 4. I started preparing myself and thought it will be cake walk since I can do HM in... |

| My First Full Marathon |
The remaining distance changed from kms to meters..1000 mts to go. A sudden adrenaline surge had me running again in elation after having been waking for nearly 9 km. But this rush could not last for even 200 mts and I again started crawling. As I approached finish, somehow managed to sprint the last 100 mts (without doping) and achieve my personal milestone of 42:195 km in 5hrs and 17 mins. The... |

| COMPLETION TO COMPLETE |
Well, running the full marathon requires adequate training and mileage. I had started the training but my office commitments forced me to cut the activity to bare minimum. With no traning and havent' run any long distance post the Delhi half Marathon, i dared to run the SCMM full marathon with only one objective to reach the finish line, which i conquered in 4hr32min05secs. I kissed my legs to take me from start to finish line. Phew, what a run..... |

| Maiden Half Marathon – SCMM 2013 |
Things done for the first time in life are always special and are nearest to your heart for everyone….then how special would it be if it’s Maiden Marathon. All my life (don’t mistake me for being too old), have been watching people running a Marathon and thinking WOW Man how do these guys run? Earlier I never made an attempt to even think that let’s try once. I was too busy with official work that left very little time for concentrating on health. ... |

A Marathon with Marathon Man of India Dr.Ashis RoyDoing a marathon with my hero and the Marathon Man of India was my dream which came true on 20th January. | 3 Cheers for me - I DNF |
So...three cheers for me!! I achieved my personal best at the SCMM 2013 - 6hours and 30 mins (approximately). Though I will NOT get a certificate and will contribute to the statistics that say X% of FM registrants Did Not Finish (I crossed the finish line after they removed the mats), I DID finish (Soumya Sagar and Venkat Krishnan can vouch for that), I stuck it out, and I bettered my time from 6:57 minutes in September to 6:30. My toughest race so far - given that I was not in a very... |

| First Full distance marathon with 18 months of running experience |
The marathon run takes few hours but behind it lays multifold experience of each day of training. Though the training per day is for an hour or two, it makes a big difference in your day...
All of us can run. Competitive running needs some sort of training. My introduction to competitive running started at NRC when they used to have training sessions at Mumbai Police Gymkhana. That was closer to malabar hill where i live. NRC made each session filled with... |

| Run with Roshni 2013 |
The main purpose of the project ‘Run with Roshni’ in 2012 was to highlight the identity crisis faced by all the Nepali speaking Indian Gorkhas. Twenty three Gorkhas ran Mumbai Marathon 2012 wearing the t-shirts with slogan- ‘We are Gorkhas, proud to be Indian. Jai Gorkha, Jai Hind.’ We got the media mentions in more than ten national newspapers.
Mumbai Marathon 2013 was to highlight the potential of Gorkha runners.... |

| Run with shoes gifted by parents and god |
The title is self explanatory shoes i used to run SCMM 2013. You are right, i am a barefoot runner. I don't have a running shoe at home. I got inspired by an old man age about 60 in my area. He walks with barefoot every morning.
This is my first run at Mumbai. I expected couple of rough patches in the route. To my surprise, i didn't find a single. Wow, it's an excellent track all through.
Excellent support from mumbai crowd.... |
